Rhyming Activities
Scavenger Hunt
You can hunt indoors or outside. You can take pictures to share with the group or write down what you find, or just have fun!
Find something that rhymes with these words:
Find a Dr. Suess book or something similar and read it together letting your child fill in the missing rhymes.
Nonsense Rhymes
See how many made up words you can string together and rhyme. Ex. fime, sime, kime, hime,..
Name Rhyming Song
Have you heard this song? Shawna, Shawna, bobawna, banana fana fo fawna, me my mo mawna, Shawna. If so, sing it for everyone you can think of!!
Rhyme the Room
Go around the room touching objects and make up silly rhymes for them.
Syllables
Robot Talk
See if you can find 4 words that have two syllables. For ex. ro- bot, tac- o, hot- dog. Talking like a robot can help you hear the syllables.
Clap It Out
This time clap out the syllables in everyone in your families names.
Alphabet
1. Take turns saying the alphabet in a funny voice with someone in your family. You could talk like a pirate or Harry Potter for example.
2. Take turns trying to say the alphabet backwards from memory (you can cheat and write it out to look at if you need to).
3. Try to describe a letter one clue at a time and see if someone can guess it. Repeat as many times as you like.
4. See if you can find one thing that starts with each letter in the alphabet. Don't stress if you can't find one!
5. If your child is pretty confident with the alphabet ask them what comes after qr?, st?, etc. Make sure they can see the alphabet and look to get answers if they can't remember. If your child struggles put this away for later.
